The Aerospace Systems Engineer fosters innovation and consistency by developing and being accountable for system-level architectures. This role leads technical development projects in cooperation with the Program Management team.
The Aerospace Systems Engineer serves as the primary technical point of contact for clients and is responsible for the technical execution of the program. Manages a multi-disciplinary project team of subject matter experts in thermal/aerospace analysis, installation, mechanical design and analysis, reliability, controls, electronics, software, and testing. Ensures clear objectives that are measurable and attainable for engineers and resources.
Works closely with the Program Manager to ensure successful execution of development programs. Coordinates technical activities with internal resources like engineers, program management, quality, and operations, as well as external vendors and contractors. Translates high-level requirements into lower-level specifications while managing traceability, verification, and validation.
Develops and maintains standard engineering methods and tools for new designs. Manages development and implementation including design analysis, risk mitigation, safety factors, reliability tools, schedules, and design reviews. Reviews documentation for prototype to production transition and oversees failure analysis processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Aerospace Systems Engineering
- Willingness to travel up to 15%
- Five years of experience in aerospace engineering, designing, analyzing, testing, integrating, qualifying, and fielding products
- Basic CAD experience preferably in SolidWorks
- Basic coding/scripting experience preferably in MATLAB or Python
- Knowledge and experience with steady state and dynamic system modeling and architecting high level controls
- Working knowledge of key aerospace technical disciplines including mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, thermal fluid sciences, electrical systems, system controls, embedded controls, development testing and analysis, qualification analysis and testing
Responsibilities
- Develop and be responsible for product system architecture and technical strategy
- Serve as technical lead for programs and provide clear objectives that are measurable and attainable to other engineers and resources
- Work closely with the Program Manager to ensure successful execution of development programs
- Manage and account for technical requirements from the top down including traceability, verification, and validation
- Translate high-level requirements into lower-level specifications
- Coordinate technical activities with internal resources and external resources including vendors and contractors
- Manage the development and implementation of new designs including design analysis, risk mitigation, review of safety factors and stack-ups, reliability tools, schedules, and design reviews
- Work and collaborate with customers to ensure real time communication and optimum solution development
