Mountain View, US · Full-time · $161,000 – $201,000

About this role

At Wisk, we're transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. We're seeking a Staff Stability & Control, Aerodynamics and Aircraft Performance Engineer for the flight physics team on the Wisk Gen 6 aircraft, targeting the autonomous UAM market.

This role involves creating and running in-house tools for linear and non-linear stability analysis, estimating performance parameters like range and stall speeds, and validating with wind tunnel and flight test data. You'll develop physics-based models of rotorcraft components including tilt rotors and batteries to support flight test and certification.

As a Staff Engineer in the Stability and Control, Performance, Aerodynamics and Flight Simulation group, you'll interface with Systems & Safety Engineering, Hardware, Software, Manufacturing, Test, and Certification teams. This is a hybrid opportunity requiring 3 days onsite at Mountain View HQ or Montreal office with flexibility for the rest.

Bring hands-on experience developing type certified aircraft from concept through flight testing. Tackle complex technical challenges on a novel aircraft, ensuring it meets product, certification and safety requirements while shaping the future of mobility.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of industry experience in aircraft and/or rotorcraft development, with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent
  • Understanding of rotorcraft and multirotor aircraft aerodynamics and vehicle stability in all modes of flight
  • Experience with commercial aviation development and Certification as well as rapid development of novel, complex systems
  • Direct hands-on experience developing and building type certified aircraft, from initial concept through flight testing and certification
  • Technical breadth to interface with all engineering functions such as Systems & Safety Engineering, Hardware, Software, Manufacturing, Test, and Certification

Responsibilities

  • Create, improve and run in-house tools to perform linear and non-linear stability and control analysis, estimate critical performance parameters, and validate with test data from wind tunnels, subscale aircraft and flight test
  • Develop, integrate and validate physics-based performance models of rotorcraft components including tilt rotors, vertical rotors, batteries and fuselage
  • Participate in wind-tunnel and flight testing and analyze data to support performance and aerodynamics database validation
  • Suggest, develop, and improve tools and processes for performance analysis and optimization of flight mission planning for autonomous aircraft
  • Author and/or review methodology documents, white papers and cert plans to support certification with FAR Part 21/23/27/91/135 requirements
  • Engage proactively with engineering leaders to ensure alignment and clear communication of solutions and issues
  • Support the development of Gen 6 aircraft by ensuring it meets product, certification and safety requirements

Benefits

  • Hybrid work opportunity: 3 days per week onsite at Mountain View HQ or Montreal office
  • Flexibility for the remainder of the days
