About this role

Collins Aerospace seeks a Principal Engineer for Structural Engineering Aftermarket Technical Services. Perform stress analysis and approve repairs on commercial nacelle hardware to minimize aircraft downtime. Ensure compliance with certified type design and airworthiness requirements from FAA/EASA.

Conduct repair stress analysis and develop analytical methods for complex issues requiring creativity. Make quick engineering judgments and perform margins exploration on various nacelle components. Apply advanced structural analysis to metallic and composite structures.

Work independently while providing technical guidance to junior engineers and recommendations to management. Mentor teams, collaborate with maintenance, engineering, management, and airline customers. Standardize processes to improve turnaround times in a primarily onsite environment.

Directly communicate with customers for rapid technical solutions and prepare RDAS/8110-3 documents for sign-off. Represent the company in technical review meetings with excellent customer relations. Drive customer satisfaction as key point of contact on complex issues.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise in structural engineering aftermarket
  • Ability to perform stress analysis compliant with FAA/EASA airworthiness requirements
  • Experience with nacelle hardware on commercial aerostructures programs
  • Proficiency in advanced structural analysis for metallic and composite repairs
  • Skills in preparing certification reports and design changes for airline operations

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair stress analysis and develop analytical methods for complex technical issues
  • Make quick engineering judgments and perform margins exploration analysis for repair solutions on nacelle components
  • Apply advanced structural analysis principles to support repair design on metallic and composite structures
  • Prepare RDAS/8110-3 documents including substantiating analysis and obtain sign-off with Airworthiness organization
  • Direct communication with Airline customers for rapid development and approval of technical solutions
  • Mentor other engineers and lead teams in the generation of standard work for repair development
  • Collaborate with all levels of maintenance, engineering, and management personnel
  • Represent Company in technical review meetings
